Blondin, the tightrope walker, also famously walked the local Edgbaston reservoir. Here he is atop a 4m plinth to walk Birmingham’s inner ring road. He strides out to link up the two halves of Ladywood that were separated by the busy dual carriageway. The sculpture also works as an informal sign, directing traffic to the shopping area.
